Im Zürichsee werden normalerweise Ketten aus blankem Stahl als Grundgeschirr verwendet. Wir verwenden diese in einer speziell gehärteten und auf Zug geprüften Ausführung. Dies bedeutet nicht, dass stetige Reibung der Kettenglieder keine starke Abnutzung derselben verursacht. Insbesondere Sand und Schlick fördern den Materialschwund zusätzlich. Die meisten Konzessionen verlangen, dass die Grundkette senkrecht vom Bojenstein zur Oberfläche geführt wird. Dies wird mit einer oder mehreren Zwischenbojen (Unterwasserbojen) sichergestellt. Wir verwenden hier ausschliesslich unsinkbare, geschlossenporig-ausgeschäumte Bojen, welche wir exklusiv für unsere Kunden herstellen lassen. Schäkel müssen mit geeigneten Mitteln (z. Bsp. hochfestem Draht) gesichert werden.

Die hohen Belastungen setzen dem gesamten System zu. Wir empfehlen deshalb, das Geschirr mindestens alle zwei Jahre professionell überprüfen zu lassen. Bei einer Materialabnützung von mehr als 30-40% ist ein Komplettersatz des/der betroffenen Bestandteile angezeigt. Laut unseren Aufzeichnungen und in Rücksprache mit Wasserbauunternehmen und Behörden, darf eine durchschnittliche, sichere Lebensdauer von 5 bis 7 Jahre angenommen werden. Dies variiert aber je nach Ort der Boje.
